Brian
Wins Again
Caber Music, the Scottish jazz record label, and the whole
Scottish jazz
scene are delighted to announce that Brian Kellock, Scotland's
leading jazz
pianist, has been recognised for a second year in a row by
scooping one of
the most prestigious awards at the glittering BBC Jazz Awards
ceremony in
London.
In 2002 in a breakthrough step for any Scottish based jazz
artist, Brian won
Best CD for his stunning trio album on Caber Music 'Live at
Henry's', and at
this year's awards ceremony on Tuesday night he followed it
up with the
coveted Best Instrumentalist award, beating luminaries like
Guy Barker.
The 40 year old Edinburgh based star played a fantastic solo
piece at the
awards in front of a video wall showing his hands on the keyboard
layered
over black and white footage of a 40's New York skyline, before
going off to
party with members of the record company Caber Music and stars
such as
Michael Parkinson, Paul Weller, and Ulrika Jonson.
Brian Kellock has long been recognised as a major talent in
his home town of
Edinburgh, where he has been developing his trademark scintillating
style of
jazz piano for nearly 20 years, but it is a string of consistently
high
quality performances on CDs released by the Scottish Jazz
label Caber Music
that have been largely responsible for his talent becoming
recognised by the
London centred UK Jazz industry.
Again this award represents the major strides being made by
the Scottish
Jazz scene in becoming recognised as one of the strongest
jazz scenes in
Europe, represented by the fact that Caber Music is the only
European label
to have CDs listed in the prestigious World Jazz Albums of
the Year list by
The Guardian newspaper for the last 2 years running (Trio
AAB 2001, and
Colin Steele 2002).
