Artist Information:

David Milligan is one of the highest regarded pianists in Scotland. Born in the Scottish Borders in 1971, and a Post-Graduate of the City of Leeds College of Music, David is heavily involved in a wide variety of projects within the UK music scene. His principle reputation lies in his work as a jazz pianist, but in recent years he has been exploring and developing a unique crossover style of piano playing. Merging his natural talent for jazz and improvisation with the traditional folk music of his native Scotland, he has created his own inimitable sound and has performed throughout Europe, the USA, Canada and Asia.

His jazz trio, now featuring drummer Tom Bancroft and bassist Tom Lyne, has become one of the leading forces of the Scottish music scene, being requested to play with some of the world¹s most distinguished jazz musicians, including Art Farmer, Scott Hamilton, Pete King, Harry Allen, Charlie Mariano, Valery Ponamarev, Bill McHenry, Spike Robinson, Howard Alden, Ken Peplowski and Buddy DeFranco.

Collaborations with other Scottish musicians include trumpeter Colin Steele¹s quintet featuring Julian Arguelles (who¹s debut CD release "Twilight Dreams" was named one of the top five jazz CDs of 2002 by the Guardian); Tommy Smith¹s Scottish National Jazz Orchestra; John Rae; Phil Bancroft; Kevin Mackenzie and Nigel Clark.

David is also in demand as an accompanist, and has worked regularly with top vocalists, including Carol Kidd, Tina May, Sophie Bancroft, Fionna Duncan and Cathie Rae.

'Late Show' is Milligan's debut release as a jazz bandleader. His trio are 100 per cent a band, developed by playing regularly over the past 3 years. His soloing is now more flowing, more organic - as if the stream of ideas need never end. For this CD, the leader penned new music that crystallised this development, in a beautifully measured range of contemporary jazz compositions - from the unforced class of 'Early Arrival', through the delicious 'Smile for Me', the irrepressible boogaloo groove of 'GadgeMo', the Pibroch inspired solo soundscape 'Piper's Bidding', to the drum 'n bass tinged 'Small World'. This release will surely introduce Dave Milligan as a jazz star in the making, (in a Brad Mehldau, Esborn Svennson mould).
